Proper Home Maintenance Pays Off

Hibu Websites • April 13, 2020

"A stitch in time, saves nine."
Dr. Thomas Fuller, 1723.

Old Dr. Fuller really knew what he was talking about, and he didn't have a modern home to maintain!

Don't empty your piggy bank on costly repairs you could have avoided.

Often, the costliest home repairs could have been prevented through routine and regular maintenance, but by the time the basement floods or the deck boards rot through, the opportunity for simple maintenance is long gone. Stay ahead of your home's continual march toward disrepair by creating a checklist of to do items and, one by one, checking them off.

Should you do it now, or do it later?

Our motto is, carpe diem. Put off maintaining things around the house at your own peril. Do the work today, while it is still a reasonably simple and inexpensive task, because it may grow overnight into something big, expensive, and ugly. And, to borrow a phrase, "Ain't nobody got time for that!"
  • Rent a lift or ladder to clean your gutters and downspouts now . . . or hire a contractor to get rid of the black mold growing in your basement after it floods with improperly diverted rainwater later.
  • Rent saws, hand tools, and pneumatic nailers to build a shed for your outdoor power tools now . . . or buy new tools when the expensive outdoor tools you own sprout legs and walk away later.
  • Rent a pressure washer and paint sprayer to paint your wood fence now . . . or hire a contractor to tear it down and rebuild it when it falls apart later.
  • Rent a dethatcher, aerator, and /or spreader to overseed your lawn now. . . or hire a yard service to get rid of your weeds and bald patches later.
  • Rent a brick and block saw and an earth mover to put in a front walkway now . . . or buy expensive new flooring when the dirt that gets tracked in at the front door ruins it later.
  • Rent a pole saw and other arborist saws to prune tall growing trees now. . . or pay someone to top them unattractively when they grow too tall and interfere with power lines later.
  • Rent a hydroseeder to create a fast growing lawn now . . . or hire a carpet cleaning service to get rid of the red clay that came into the house on the soles of your shoes later.
  • Rent a paint sprayer and compressor to stain your deck now . . . or hire a handyman to replace one board after another as they rot through later.
  • Rent an underground line layer and lay an underground dog fence now . . . or spend hot summer days looking for your dog, Houdini, later.
  • Or, rent an underground line layer and install a perimeter for your new robotic Husqvarna Automower® now . . . or either mow it yourself or pay a lawn care service to mow it later.
If any of the above examples are relatable, give us a call. It may not be too late!

Over the past two decades, the Mountain Xpress has grown its "Best of WNC" program into a fixture of the community. Highly anticipated by local residents, the yearly issue is the most comprehensive catalog of the best independent businesses in the Asheville area. Needless to say, being named "Best of WNC" is a huge honor and privilege for any business. Last year was the first time that Rental Equipment Store was a voting category. We are so proud and grateful to our amazing customers who voted us #1 Equipment Rental in WNC in 2019.

The pros know that there is more to a gorgeous lawn than proper mowing and fertilizing. The difference between average-looking grass and a verdant, carpet-like lawn is making sure that nutrients can reach the soil beneath your grass. Aeration is a critical step because it allows air, water, and nutrients to penetrate built-up grass or lawn thatch.
